Galvanized Steel Grating

Galvanized steel grating is carbon steel bar grating that is fully fabricated first — welded, cut and banded — then hot-dip galvanized as a complete panel. The applicable ASTM A123/A123M, ISO 1461 or customer requirements and inspection evidence are agreed for the order.

What is galvanized steel grating?

Galvanized steel grating is welded carbon steel grating protected by a hot-dip zinc coating. Unlike pre-galvanized material, the panel is completely fabricated first — bearing bars welded, panels cut to size, ends banded and cut-outs formed — and only then immersed in molten zinc. Every weld point, cut edge and drilled hole receives the same continuous coating as the flat surfaces.

This fabrication-first sequence makes hot-dip galvanizing a common choice for outdoor industrial platforms, walkways, stair treads and trench covers. Required coating thickness depends on the material category and measured steel thickness under the project-specified edition of ASTM A123/A123M, ISO 1461 or another agreed standard. Required minimums and actual readings should be stated in the order inspection documents.

  • Panels are completely welded, cut and banded before galvanizing so every edge is coated.
  • Cut-outs, toe plates, lifting holes and clip positions are fabricated to layout drawings.
  • When included in the order inspection scope, checks can cover bar size and spacing, weld points, flatness and dimensions against the drawing.
  • Coating-thickness readings can be recorded in the agreed batch inspection report.
  • Tall, thin bearing bars (e.g. 3 mm thick above 50 mm depth) are reviewed for distortion risk before production.

Do you galvanize before or after fabrication?
Always after. Panels are fully welded, cut, banded and drilled first, then hot-dip galvanized as complete units. This coats welds, cut edges and holes — pre-galvanized material would leave those areas unprotected.
What zinc coating thickness can you achieve?
The applicable value depends on the material category and measured steel thickness under the project-specified edition of ASTM A123/A123M, ISO 1461 or another agreed standard. State the required minimums and reporting scope in the order; actual readings can then be recorded in the agreed inspection report.
Is galvanized grating suitable for chemical plants?
Hot-dip galvanized grating performs well in most industrial atmospheres. For sustained chemical splash, chloride or marine exposure, we recommend evaluating stainless steel 316L. Tell us the environment and we will advise on the practical option.
What is the lead time for galvanized grating?
Typical production lead time is 15–25 days depending on quantity and fabrication complexity, including the galvanizing step. Samples of standard specifications typically take 3–7 days.
Can you supply panels numbered to our layout drawings?
Yes. Our CAD technicians detail each panel to your layout with area and sequence numbering, and panels are tagged and packed to match — this is standard for platform and walkway projects.
