Stainless Steel Grating

Stainless steel grating serves environments where coated carbon steel is not enough: chemical plants, food and pharmaceutical production, wastewater treatment and coastal sites. Corrosion resistance is built into the material, so welds and cut edges need no coating — supplied in SS304/304L and SS316/316L with mill, passivated, blasted or electro-polished finishes.

  • SS304 / 304L for general corrosive and hygienic duty
  • SS316 / 316L with molybdenum for chloride exposure
  • Pickled, passivated, blasted or electro-polished finishes
  • Welded and fabricated to your drawings

What is stainless steel grating?

Stainless steel grating is welded bar grating made from corrosion-resistant stainless alloys. SS304 covers most food, architectural and general corrosive duties; molybdenum-bearing SS316/316L resists chlorides in marine, coastal and chemical service.

Unlike galvanized carbon steel, corrosion resistance is in the material itself, so cut edges and welds need no coating — though pickling and passivation after welding restore the full protective oxide layer, and electro-polishing adds a smooth, hygienic surface where cleanability is specified.

Grade selection follows the actual media, concentration, temperature and cleaning regime — tell us the environment and we will recommend the practical grade rather than defaulting to the most expensive option.

Variants

Recommended Types

SS304 / 304L general-duty grating

The workhorse grade for food processing, breweries, architectural and general corrosive environments.

SS316 / 316L chloride-resistant grating

Molybdenum-bearing grade for marine air, salt spray, chemical and wastewater service.

Electro-polished hygienic grating

Smooth, bright surface for sanitary zones where cleanability and appearance are specified.

Serrated stainless grating

Toothed bearing bars for wet process floors, marine walkways and stairs needing grip plus corrosion resistance.

Fabrication & QC

Fabrication & Quality Notes

  • Stainless panels are welded and fabricated with dedicated tooling and handling to avoid carbon steel contamination.
  • Welds are pickled and the whole panel passivated to restore the protective oxide layer after fabrication.
  • Material traceability is maintained with mill test certificates for each batch.
  • Panels are checked for dimensions, spacing, weld appearance and surface finish against the agreed sample.

Packaging

Packaging & Delivery

Stainless panels stacked separately before protective interleaving, identification and export packing.
  • Stainless panels packed separately from carbon steel, with protective interleaving against scratches and iron contamination.
  • Steel frame crates for electro-polished or high-value panels.
  • Numbered stainless panel tags are isolated from finished faces, with the packing list keyed to the approved layout.

FAQ

Stainless Steel Grating FAQs

When is stainless worth the cost over galvanized steel?
Where corrosion is aggressive or continuous — chemical splash, chlorides, marine air — or where hygiene and appearance matter, stainless avoids coating maintenance and repainting over the installation life.
304 or 316L — how do I choose?
SS304 suits most indoor, food and mildly corrosive duties. Choose SS316L for salt spray, chlorides and many chemicals. Tell us the environment and we will recommend the practical grade.
What finishes are available?
Mill, pickled and passivated as standard; bead-blasted or electro-polished for uniform appearance and hygienic service. Surface grade is agreed with samples before production.
Does stainless grating need galvanizing or painting?
No. Corrosion resistance comes from the alloy itself. After welding we pickle and passivate the panel to restore the protective oxide layer — no zinc or paint coating is required.
What are the MOQ and lead time for stainless grating?
Stainless grating is custom-produced; the practical minimum is around 50 m² because of material and setup costs. Typical lead time is 15–25 days, with samples of standard specifications in 3–7 days.
Can you supply electro-polished grating for food plants?
Yes. Electro-polishing is available for hygienic service; the surface grade is agreed with samples before production so delivered panels match the approved finish.
Is stainless grating as strong as carbon steel grating?
Strength is comparable for the same bar section, and panels are sized to your span and load the same way. Load capacity is always confirmed against span, load type and support conditions during specification.
